Bocadillos - Crawl #21 Revisited

March was an eventful month of Crawls which included our visitors from the States joining us on a Revisit to Sacramento, the 4th Annual St. Pat's Crawl at Keg and Swan, and a visit to one of PE's newest coffee shops, The Tinker Bean.  Our visitors have returned to Arizona, and Crawlers Beth Vieira, Colleen Le Roux, Margaret Zoetmulder, Stella and Beryl Dawson, Sylvia Mynhardt, June Nash, Vicki Minnaar, Lee Rodwell, Nomusa Nkomo, Nicolette Hijmans, Elize Pretorius, Pierrette De Winne started the month of April with Crawl #21 Revisit to Bocadillos.

This Week's Crawlers
Vicki, June, Margaret, Lee, Pierrette, Sylvia,
Nicolette, Stella, Elize, Beryl, Nomusa,
Colleen, Beth

Coffee shops #18 (Blue Orange) and #19 (The Grove), both from June, 2011 are no longer in business as coffee shops, and shop #20 (Elyon's) will be addressed in an upcoming post.  So on to Bocadillos which we first visited on June 30, 2011.

In the years since the Crawlers were last there Bocadillos, located on 6th Ave in Walmer, has changed ownership, management and coffee brand with the new owner being Abel Esterhuysen, the manager, Allen Cannon, and Ciro being the new coffee served at the shop.  Despite all the changes Bocadillos has seen, the establishment has remained one of PE's favorite coffee shops.

Bocadillos' menu features breakfasts, lunches and light dinners while the bakery side of the business offers freshly baked artisan breads, cakes and pastries daily.....while they last!

Meet the Barista
Taba

Whenever I drive by Bocadillos it seems full to capacity regardless of the time.  Thursday's Crawl was no exception, even with the torrential downpour that PE experienced that morning....it's a good thing I made a booking!  There was a constant flow of patrons either waiting to be seated or standing in the queue to purchase bakery items.  The place was so busy, in fact, that I had little opportunity to take pics or to speak with the manager.  However, I did get to snap a quick pic of the barista, Taba, who just so happened to be our barista for our 21st Crawl back in June, 2011!  Glad to see you again, Taba....the coffees were delicious!

Bocadillos hours are Mon-Sat, 7:30 am - 9:30 pm; closed on Sunday.  To make a booking or to order bakery items call 041 581 1523 or 083 325 3636.

~Thank you to Manager Allen Cannon and the Bocadillos staff.

The Tinker Bean

After a month of vacationing with our visitors from Arizona I'm struggling to get back into my daily schedule.  Here I am, though, finally getting our March 27 Crawl posted.

Just before we left PE for a 10-day road trip with our friends, Crawler Leanne Waller told me about a new coffee shop in town called The Tinker Bean, located at 250 Main Rd. in Walmer.  While we were away Crawler June Nash was kind enough to make the booking for the March 27 Crawl at The Tinker Bean for me.  Thank you, June!

Terrance

The Tinker Bean opened for business on March 7, 2014, just three weeks before our Crawl to the shop.  Owner Arjenique De Jager, barista Terrance, and The Tinker Bean waitstaff were not fazed by the 21 Crawlers, Beth Vieira, Stella and Beryl Dawson, Sylvia Mynhardt, June Nash, Leanne Waller, Jackie and David Dudek, Margaret Zoetmulder, Colleen Le Roux, Margaret and Arthur Marshall, Nomusa Nkomo, Gail Darne, Celeste Hudson, Lee Rodwell, Nicolette Hijmans, Pierrette De Winne, Elize Pretorius, Dale Mitchell, who showed up hungry and thirsty on Crawl Day.  Like a well-oiled machine, The Tinker Bean staff went about serving numerous rounds of House of Coffee brand beverages plus breakfast and cakes for the duration of our three hour visit.

This Week's Crawlers
Celeste, Elize, Sylvia, Gail, Beryl, David, Jackie, Stella,
Leanne, Pierrette, June, Nomusa, Dale, Beth, Margaret Z.

My cappuccino was very good but by second round coffee milkshake was outstanding and very refreshing especially with it being so warm that day.  I'm not much of a milkshake drinker but I highly recommend The Tinker Bean coffee shake.....amazing stuff!!!

The Tinker Bean Coffee Shop is situated in a renovated house on Main Rd. with off road parking available.  The shop seats approximately 56 patrons inside and on the patio.  There is a children's play area on the property which makes The Tinker Bean a wonderful place for a Moms and Tots morning out.
The menu offers breakfast, lunch, cakes, and take-ways.  The Tinker Bean chef will also make pre-ordered quiche, chicken pie and apple pie for pick-up.....to order, call 0716236990.  The Tinker Bean's hours are Mon-Sat, 8-4; Sun, 8-1.

This week's weather forecast looks to be beautiful....sunny with nice temps.....the perfect time to enjoy a coffee, tea, or even better, a shake on the patio of PE's newest coffee shop!

~Thank you to Arjenique and The Tinker Bean staff....best wishes on your new business venture!
