Sadie's Coffee Shop

Another unexpected trip to the U.S. took me away from the blog and Crawl for the past month but I'm back in PE now and finally getting to post our September 11 Coffee Crawl.

In the midst of all of our revisits, new coffee shops continue to crop up in PE, and the Crawlers are always on the lookout for new places to visit.  Back in August Beth Vieira spotted Sadie's, one of PE's newest coffee establishments, in the MGE Centre at 6th and Heugh in Walmer.  On September 11 eight Crawlers, Margaret Zoetmulder, Margaret and Arthur Marshall, Gail Darne, Beth Vieira, Nomusa Nkomo, Stella and Beryl Dawson, and I headed to Sadie's which opened on August 15, just three short weeks prior to our visit.

Sadie's owner, Barbara Kretzmann, named the coffee shop after her pet Labrador whose picture adorns the wall at the the shop's entrance.  The rest of the shop is tastefully decorated in green and black with coffee bean and burlap accents.  The menu, featuring a selection of cakes, muffins, quiches, and sandwiches, is displayed on one wall of the shop.  Daily and weekly specials are also offered, and everything on the menu is available for take-away.

Love this!

With seating for 20 people Sadie's exudes a cozy, comfortable and friendly atmosphere in which to share a Sumatran coffee and a bite to eat with friends.  There was a steady stream of customers at Sadie's on the Thursday only three weeks after the official opening....word is obviously out about the excellent service, good food (compliments of chef Tari), and exceptional coffee prepped by barista Priscilla.

Love this, too!

PE residents, if you haven't already done so, check out Sadie's at their conveniently located Heugh St. address soon!  Sadie's hours are Mon-Fri, 9-4:30; Sat, 9-12:30; closed on Sunday.  Call 041 581 0037 to order take-aways or to make a booking.

It was a relatively small group at the Sept 11 Crawl.  Conversation at the table included the day's hot news topics (but old news now), those being the vote for Scotland's independence and the Oscar Pistorius verdict.  In retrospect, I believe our collective predictions for both outcomes were accurate.  Who needs CNN, BBC and the lot?

Thank you to Barbara and the Sadie's staff for your hospitality.

And now, a number of congratulations and belated birthday wishes:
